EAST–FAR EAST
The film Ost-Fernost (East-Far East) tells the story of Japanese artist Tatsuhiko Yokoo, who settled in a small village in the Oderbruch region (in former eastern Germany) shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall, initially causing annoyance there, and eventually staying until his death in 2015. “This man opened the door to the world for us,” says former mayor Erdmute Rudolph about Yokoo, and some of his activities continue to have an impact in the area today. The film follows two exhibition organizers as they prepare an exhibition of Yokoo’s work; it also looks at how the region has evolved since the fall of communism.
